6 + 1 Essential Raw Diet Supplements for Cats

Essential raw food supplements for cats

Essential Raw Diet Supplements for CatsMost kitty parents have at least heard that kitties are “obligate carnivores” but do you really know what that means? Quite simply, it means that we are meat eaters. It means we eat meat and only meat (including organs and bones). We don’t need fiber. Our bodies aren’t designed for it. We don’t have the enzyme needed to digest it and so fiber can cause digestive issues. That includes all those grains you find in commercial pet food as well as those fruits and vegetables. I know, you think if fruits and vegetables are good for you they must be good for us, but, no. Now, I know the next thing you are probably going to say is, “but what about the grains in the stomach’s … Continue reading

First Impressions of the Natural Prey Model Raw Diet

Ocean with raw chicken thigh bone

Yesterday I was doing some research for a post I am writing for tomorrow and I came across a raw feeding site that promotes the natural prey model. What is that you ask? Well, it means that kitties are fed a combination of a variety of whole, raw, small carcasses, (for example small game hens, chickens, duck, quail, rabbits, mice, rats and/or fish). Obviously, they don’t suggest you feed a whole chicken but rather a piece of the chicken, without cutting it up or grinding it.

Mom has read about this before and thought perhaps she could give it a try as a treat if we could eat outside, but since we can’t, she never gave us anything but our chunked and ground food. She’s pretty savvy and knew the very first thing we would do is pull the whole thing off the plate onto the floor. Since she was getting ready … Continue reading

Raw Food Diet — Easier than You Think!

My raw food diet is paw licking good!

My raw food diet is paw licking good!As you may know, mom has fed us a raw food diet for several years now. We posted the diet and how to make it a few weeks ago. Since then, mom has been asked by several people if she has a recipe for a smaller amount that doesn’t use a grinder, so last week she made a small batch so she could show you how to do it. The process is really very much the same.Supplements for a raw food diet

Chicken, Chicken, Chicken – My Raw Food Diet

Tongue 032315 231I don’t think there is anything more basic or important to a cat than food, and I am no exception. It is definitely a motivator. Mom has to watch me because if I get a chance, I will eat anything and everything left by Echo or Ocean. I eat faster than them and sometimes push them off their food when mom turns her back! Maybe that is because our food is so delicious! You see, mom has been feeding us a raw food diet for several years now.

I know this is a controversial issue for some but it really doesn’t need to be. Miss Robin of Playful Kitty wrote a great post recently called The Debate Over the Raw Food Diet for … Continue reading

The Secret is Out: Why My Weight Loss Diet Didn’t Work

Did you know that the secret to weight loss for kitties is the same as for humans? Read on to find out why my cat diet for weight loss didn't work.

I have a funny story to tell you. It’s been a secret but I guess it won’t be after I tell you about it.

If you’ve ever met me or really looked at some of my photos, you know I’m not the most svelte kitty out there. I’ve never had the slim waist like my brofurs Echo and Ocean. This is evident even in this photo from the BlogPaws conference in Phoenix in 2016 when I weighed about 11 fluffy pounds.

BlogPaws Conference, Phoenix, AZ, 2016 - Why my cat diet for weight loss didn't work

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a napping kind of kitty. If I were a human, I guess you’d call me a couch potato.

If They Won’t Give You Bacon, Get Your Own

Really, it wasn't me! Christy washing her face.

Furiends, I have a tale to tell you. I think my bacon loving furiend, Sammy, will especially appreciate it.

My Bacon Tale

Recently, mom made herself a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich for lunch. When she went to sit down to eat it, as always, I sat next to her and stared. That usually gets me at least one or two bites of whatever she is eating. I stared and stared but I got no reward. She ate the whole thing without giving me one single bite!

Mom set her empty plate on the table and went to sit in the comfy chair to rest for a while. Lucky for me she fell asleep. … Continue reading

Road Trip – Part 2 – BlogPaws

Everyone said I handled the busy BlogPaws 2016 conference really well. Keep reading to see who I met and my perspective on it.

When last I left you, in Road Trip – Part 1, it was shortly after 6 am on Wednesday and we were on the road to Chandler, Arizona, and BlogPaws 2016.

I sang mom a tune or two when we first started but then got tired and just hung out. I tried to nap but it just didn’t seem to happen. So many strange noises outside and the motion of the car did NOT lull me to sleep.

Mom only made two quick stops along the way so we arrived at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler before noon. At first, mom thought she was going the wrong way. The hotel is down a narrow, two lane road kind of out in the middle of nowhere, or so it seemed.

Check in was a breeze and we … Continue reading
