Most kitty parents have at least heard that kitties are “obligate carnivores” but do you really know what that means? Quite simply, it means that we are meat eaters. It means we eat meat and only meat (including organs and bones). We don’t need fiber. Our bodies aren’t designed for it. We don’t have the enzyme needed to digest it and so fiber can cause digestive issues. That includes all those grains you find in commercial pet food as well as those fruits and vegetables. I know, you think if fruits and vegetables are good for you they must be good for us, but, no. Now, I know the next thing you are probably going to say is, “but what about the grains in the stomach’s … Continue reading →
Yesterday I was doing some research for a post I am writing for tomorrow and I came across a raw feeding site that promotes the natural prey model. What is that you ask? Well, it means that kitties are fed a combination of a variety of whole, raw, small carcasses, (for example small game hens, chickens, duck, quail, rabbits, mice, rats and/or fish). Obviously, they don’t suggest you feed a whole chicken but rather a piece of the chicken, without cutting it up or grinding it.
Mom has read about this before and thought perhaps she could give it a try as a treat if we could eat outside, but since we can’t, she never gave us anything but our chunked and ground food. She’s pretty savvy and knew the very first thing we would do is pull the whole thing off the plate onto the floor. Since she was getting ready … Continue reading →
As you may know, mom has fed us a raw food diet for several years now. We posted the diet and how to make it a few weeks ago. Since then, mom has been asked by several people if she has a recipe for a smaller amount that doesn’t use a grinder, so last week she made a small batch so she could show you how to do it. The process is really very much the same.
I don’t think there is anything more basic or important to a cat than food, and I am no exception. It is definitely a motivator. Mom has to watch me because if I get a chance, I will eat anything and everything left by Echo or Ocean. I eat faster than them and sometimes push them off their food when mom turns her back! Maybe that is because our food is so delicious! You see, mom has been feeding us a raw food diet for several years now.
I have a funny story to tell you. It’s been a secret but I guess it won’t be after I tell you about it.
If you’ve ever met me or really looked at some of my photos, you know I’m not the most svelte kitty out there. I’ve never had the slim waist like my brofurs Echo and Ocean. This is evident even in this photo from the BlogPaws conference in Phoenix in 2016 when I weighed about 11 fluffy pounds.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a napping kind of kitty. If I were a human, I guess you’d call me a couch potato.
Furiends, I have a tale to tell you. I think my bacon loving furiend, Sammy, will especially appreciate it.
My Bacon Tale
Recently, mom made herself a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich for lunch. When she went to sit down to eat it, as always, I sat next to her and stared. That usually gets me at least one or two bites of whatever she is eating. I stared and stared but I got no reward. She ate the whole thing without giving me one single bite!
You Have to Make Your Own Luck
Mom set her empty plate on the table and went to sit in the comfy chair to rest for a while. Lucky for me she fell asleep. … Continue reading →
Today is a big day around our house. Not only is it our country’s birthday, it is the day I celebrate my birthday and Echo and Ocean celebrate their gotcha day. You can read here why we celebrate on the Fourth.
We already get great food with our homemade raw, but we usually get something special to eat and even extra treats. Mom gives us lots of extra hugs — sometimes I think she could keep some of those! We are very grateful to be such lucky kitties and we want to share with our furiends so please take a minute to enter my giveaway. Just use the Rafflecopter below.

When last I left you, in Road Trip – Part 1, it was shortly after 6 am on Wednesday and we were on the road to Chandler, Arizona, and BlogPaws 2016.
I sang mom a tune or two when we first started but then got tired and just hung out. I tried to nap but it just didn’t seem to happen. So many strange noises outside and the motion of the car did NOT lull me to sleep.
Mom only made two quick stops along the way so we arrived at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler before noon. At first, mom thought she was going the wrong way. The hotel is down a narrow, two lane road kind of out in the middle of nowhere, or so it seemed.
