Spring Flowers on the Deck

Deck-Flowers-158-10

View from the kitchen window

Several times I have mentioned that I was going to show you photos of the spring flowers on our deck but the weather had other ideas. Everything has pretty much recovered and, in fact, mom has added several more pots, so we have lots of color out there. Some of the flowers, like the freesia, have come and gone, but others have taken their place. This is the first time in years mom has had flowers in the yard so she is pretty happy with them. She really likes looking out the kitchen window on the pretty view.

I have to admit, I like smelling them — especially my two pots of catnip!

The sad thing (for mom) about our yard is that even though we have quite a large yard, we have a low fence, and as you may have seen, the deer make themselves at home in it. They are fun to watch but they eat everything! Mom is hoping the pots on her raised deck are safe and the deer won’t get desperate and come up the stairs.

Mom’s friend and next door neighbor, Kelly, has a high fence, specifically to keep the deer out, and that is where the vegetable garden is. They are doing straw bale gardening which I’ll tell you about in a later post. They have already gotten one cucumber out of it and the 4th of July tomatoes are starting to turn. This seems to excite them but I haven’t seen anything of interest over there. There’s no catnip and no silvervine.

Wishing you a colorful life!

I can tell you like your catnip. I like the Amaryllis, very pretty. Mine didn’t bloom for about 5 years and I just kept watering it and it finally bloomed about a month ago.

  7. The flowers are so pretty, Christy. We have problems with deer too…and rabbits and squirrels. The deer just ate all of the mom’s hostas in front of our house…and they just started growing! She put some deer deterrent on them and is hoping they come back.

Those are beautiful arrangements! I tried growing catnip outdoors, but the squirrels disturbed the seeds over and over again with their incessant corn and nut planting. Grrrr. Maybe next season.

There are deer in our area, but they never come into our yard… so it is a total waste that my human does nothing with it!

  11. Those flowers are beautiful. I’d be over sniffing them all day. Our catnip is doing well too. Have a great weekend friends.

Beautiful flowers! Because of deer, Mom puts all her flowers and veggies up on our deck in deck boxes or big pots. Otherwise the deer think our yard is an all you can eat buffet!

    Hugs, Sammy

  14. Mommy’s daddy had trouble with deers eating his roses. But he liked looking at the deers, so he didn’t complain too much.. This was after the woofie went OTRB…. so the deers weren’t afraid to come into the backyard!

Those shots by the catnip are just too cute! 🙂

  16. Just beautiful! We are on the 2nd floor of a condo/apt building and usually have flowers on our balcony. This year, we have an awful bee/wasp problem which we have to resolve before we can put flowers out 🙁
