Where do Evacuated Kitties Stay?

We still don’t have many words, so I guess it is a good thing it is Wordless Wednesday. We have been trying to write a post for the past couple of days, but mom and I just can’t wrap our heads around it yet. In case you don’t know, we were evacuated last Thursday afternoon due to the Butte Fire in Amador and Calaveras counties. We were allowed back in our house late on Sunday. On Monday, the wind came up and changed direction so we weren’t sure if we might have to evacuate again. It was a very stressful and long day for mom. Yesterday was finally the first day that things seemed pretty safe on our side of the fire. We plan to have a more in-depth post soon.

So, where do evacuated kitties stay during a fire when the people offering refuge have big dogs and don’t want kitties in the house?

Where do Evacuated Kitties Stay During a Fire? - Our first night in the car

We actually had it pretty good in mom’s car — a big SUV.

Hope to visit everyone soon. I miss you all!

  12. Sammy says:

This is such good news…..we’ve all been very worried about you and your whole family and all those effected by the horrible and scary fires. Mauricio told everyone at Cat Scouts and we were all sending POTP and prayers. I’m glad you kitties were safe in the SUV – too bad you had to stay there instead of in a house but at least you were SAFE. Hope you can STAY in your own place now and that the fires will be stopped ASAP.

    Love, Sammy

  13. We are glad that you are okay and that the fire can be contained soon!

  14. Raven says:

Gosh, I’m sorry you had to evacuate and didn’t have a great place for kitties to stay.
I’m waiting to hear from friends who live in the Valley fire area near Napa.. Looking at the fire maps, I fear they’ve lost everything. I’m just hoping they got themselves, the horses, dogs, and other furries to safety. This has been one of California’s most devastating fire seasons. Thank God it started raining today, hopefully that will take the edge off some of these fires.

    Stay safe.

  15. Summer says:

Paws crossed that the danger has passed for good! I knew you had evacuated, and you and your human would be okay, but we were so concerned for your home! My human and I were on Facebook a bunch all weekend, looking for news from your human and we were so relieved when you reported you were back home!

  16. Bev Green says:

Christy i can’t like this post..i know what you have been through believe me..we live with this awful threat every year..we were evacuated for a month during Black Saturday..people were amazing..our local shelter made available places for cats and dogs for the duration of the fires at no cost and they ran place where people could post messages saying they had room for cats or dogs or even sheep and horses and people..so networking was amazing..we had the three sheep stay with a wonderful family who were in a safe zone..they did this for nothing but generosity..the kitties and pups were at my shelter and we missed them terribly..people housed other people and animals the idea was a great one..and all to rally together..a month is a long time..we stayed with our kids..only returning home to batten own outside things on the worst day predicted..was like a ghost town..we feel for you all and sadly have a feeling we shall be in for a hideous summer here..if you would like some ideas on what we did and how please drop me an email as we learnt some great things in regards to keeping pets safe and how to deal with the whole horror of these events..sending our love Bev xxx dinz1234@bigpond.com

  18. We’re so glad you’re home, and we hope you’re able to finally relax your vigilance a little bit and rest soon. You must all be exhausted from the evacuation and the stress!

  19. Ellen Pilch says:

I am sorry I didn’t know about this, I got behind in reading posts last week with Lucy’s illness and going to the bridge. I will be praying for you.r safety- and sanity ( I can’t even imagine how stressful that is).

  20. Robin says:

That would be so exhausting! I’m glad to hear that you are all okay. My cats would be in my van during an evacuation until I could return home or find a more suitable arrangement. I hope you continue to stay safe!

Oh no! I’m so sorry! We’re California natives (over 40 years), but lived a lot closer to the coast. I didn’t know you were going through this. I’ll find you guys on FB. I’m so thankful that you all are safe now but I just can’t imagine what you others have gone through.

  24. So happy the evacuation is over and you’re back in your fine house. Our thoughts and prayers were with you.

We were so happy when we found out you all were home. Mau told everybody at Cat Scouts. Every time Mom turned on the news and saw fire spreading and you still weren’t home she would be all crazy pants. We continue to purr and pray for y’all ’cause we know that fire can do strange things. Mom says she can’t even fathom the stress y’all were under. Sending warm hugs to you kitties and mom Ava.
