Grateful for Rain?

I missed Caturday Art yesterday so I thought I’d give you an artsy fartsy selfie today.

Grateful for Rain? - Sunday SelfieFor the past couple of days we have been thinking about our friends in the east in the path of the big snow storm. We hope you are all safe.

Our biggest concern here when we have snow or high winds is that the power might go out. Mom says we depend so much on electricity that it is a little scary. Our heat depends on the electricity and that is the worst. You know how us kitties hate the cold! We moved here during the winter and one of the first things mom bought was a kerosene heater for emergencies.

We have lots of flashlights and battery powered lanterns. We have a small generator that aunt Kelly loaned us when she got her new, big one. It will run our freezer and refrigerator. It will also charge all mom’s electronics and even run the TV. That seems to make mom happy. Thank goodness our power has never been off long enough that we’ve had to use the heater or generator. How does your family prepare for emergencies?

We’ve had lots of rain here for the past several weeks but no snow since Christmas. Mom says she loves the snow but is grateful that, with all this abundance, it is rain and not snow. At least we are able to function fairly normally. Since we’ve had so much rain and more to come, mom thinks she needs one of these Kitty Moving Tail Wiper Decals for the car. Might as well put some fun in all this rain.

Stay safe and warm, my friends!

We love howyou did your selfie today. You look gorgeous. Can you believe that more than a week after the storm, we still have gobs of snow everywhere? Hope to see you again tomorrow. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth ad Calista Jo

I love your cat art! You look great in it. 🙂 Battery-powered light sources are a great idea. This has been a strange winter here in Michigan. We haven’t gotten nearly the amount of snow we are used to (not that I’m complaining).

  5. Gorgeous artsy selfy , Christie !
Over at my place there is a BIG generator ( an old diesel lorry motor) that makes power to the whole farm where we are renting a flat 🙂

  6. That’s a beautiful Selfie, Christy and you are such a thoughtful cat. We only have storms the whole year, but when it is freezing, we don’t have electricity either, but only for a few hours. The longest was 7 hours and that was terrible, so we can imagine how terrible it is for the people and animals on the other side of the world. We always have a lot of candles in the house and bread, so that we at least can eat something. Purraying for our furriends out there in the cold and a double Pawkiss for you. Stay safe and warm 🙂 <3

  7. That’s a very pretty selfie, Christy. We have flashlights, that’s about it. We’ve lived her for almost 12 years and we’ve been lucky our power has never gone out. Even during Superstorm Sandy!

  8. Deziz World says:

Dat’s really cute Christy. Mommy sed she wants one too. Couse dat’s not gunna happen, so…Glad y’all are safe and not havin’ dat pawful snow. And we luv yous artsy foto. Dat’s really neat. Hope you have a gweat week.

  10. We love your selfie!

We are also thinking of all our friends affected by the snow.. Though snow is nice (we haven’t had any here) it can be dangerous (especially for the poor animals who don’t have warm homes or warm humans to snuggle up with).

  11. Sammy says:

Nice selfie!!!! We are OK here in Virginia – will be a while before school resumes and businesses open again….roads still clogged with snow…..thirty inches of snow causes a LOT of problems!

    Love, Sammy

  12. Gattina says:

What an excellent idea to combine both themes ! the result is excellent !

  13. We haven’t had any snow or rain for like a week? The Mom doesn’t much like the snow, so she is happy it hasn’t snowed in a bit.

We didn’t know that a small generator could do all of that – that is pretty amazing!

  14. We’re not really prepared either. Our heating relies also on electricity, and it actually happened that out power was gone in December for one day. We live in Northern Europe, so yes, it really was cold.

MOm says thats he knows she should prepare better, but she can’t afford right now to buy a radiator or sth similar. She knows, however, a lot of people who don’t need electricity to heat, and they do also welcome us felines.

  15. Summer says:

Cool selfie art, Christie! Since it doesn’t snow where we live, if the electricity goes out and my human really needs internet, my human drives to a hotel! If we could afford it, we would install solar energy, so this wouldn’t even be an issue. Maybe someday in the not too distant future!

  16. meowmeowmans says:

That’s some wonderful artwork, Christy! We got lots of snow here, and luckily, our power stayed on! Stay warm and dry, okay?

  17. Connie says:

    I hope all is well..

  18. Oooooh, we hope you guys don’t float away ! Very pretty selfie!

  19. Lovely art selfie!

  20. We love your artsy selfie Christie. Very well done. How do prepare for an emergency. We have candles and extra food (MRE’s) and water. Other than that…zip. We live inside a city and power outages are fixed very quickly.

    What a wonderful selfie!!

  22. Brian Frum says:

That is a most wonderful selfie!!! We got lucky here and that bad storm just missed us. Y’all keep snuggly warm!

  23. Wow, this is such a lovely selfie! I am curious how you made that image. Really cool.

The storm missed us and we are sending lots of good wishes to everyone to stay safe.

  24. Your artwork is so cool! We’re not really prepared, either. We didn’t get any snow from this storm but our main concern is summer storms when the power goes out and the sump pump can’t run. A generator would be a great relief for when that happens.

  25. Raven says:

    That’s a great artistic selfie.
We’re pretty well prepared for emergencies. We also have a generator and the house automatically switches over to generator power if there’s a power outage. We have lots of canned goods, bottled water, and other emergency supplies. There are lots of lists online for people to look through if they want to make a little (or large) emergency kit. We’re not prepared for a quick evacuation, but we’re prepared to weather any storm and mom can pull supplies together pretty quickly if we need to pack up and go.

    • Christy Paws says:

We don’t have a whole house generator, which would be great, but our little one will take care of the important stuff for quite a while — as long as we don’t run out of gas!

  26. Ellen Pilch says:

Beautiful art. We need our power to get water-to flush , very important. We have a generator that can run everything in the house. We got it one time the power was out for 3 days- that was 20 years ago.

  27. Toby says:

    very cool arty selfie!!

  28. Annie says:

That is such a neat selfie, Christy!

Fortunately, we did not lose power in this blizzard. We haven’t lost power in a few years, but it’s awful when it happens. We have two battery lanterns and flashlights. Unfortunately, we have no gas, just electricity. We are so electricity dependent. That kerosene heater sounds like a great idea!

  29. We don’t think we’re properly prepared for emergencies, Christy. It’s one of the things that the mom needs to focus on better.

    We love your artsy selfie.

  30. That’s a terrific arty selfie, Christy!! We have power outages from time to time when a tree falls on a line! We have a gas fire that can be lit by matches and a small calor gas stove for cooking! It seems to work! It sounds like your mom has it all covered! 🙂

    • Christy Paws says:

Our stove for cooking (not that we really care about that) is propane and can be lit with matches so the mom can eat and keep her strength to feed us! She has it pretty well covered but we all hope we never have to put it into use!

  31. That’s a lovely artsy selfie ! Purrs

  32. Flynn says:

That is a lovely arty selfie. We rarely get snow here, thank goodness, but we do get a lot of rain.

  33. Pawsome selfie today! How did your mom do that?

A kitty tail wiper decal – now that would be furry interesting way to combat the rainy blues. If you get one, please share what they look like!

    Stay safe and warm too!
